Physical Equilibrium registered dietitian Sarah Currie recently authored an article for the Web site Livestrong.com entitled A Meal Plan for Triathletes.  Livestrong.com is a blog dedicated to being “the  most valued online source of inspiring, relevant and useful health-related information.”

In the article, Sarah states that, “Whether you are preparing for a sprint, Olympic, half ironman (70.3 miles), or ironman distance triathlon, your nutrition plan should take as high a priority as your training plan.”  Additionally, Sarah provides readers with an easy way to calculate how many calories an athlete should consume daily while training.  For all of Sarah’s triathlon training nutritional tips, click here to read the full article.

Over the weekend I attended the ECA Fitness Conference and Expo in Miami Beach, Florida. For two days, I sat in on classes, lectures and workshops that taught me some great new fitness techniques, exercises and routines to tryout with all of my Physical Equilibrium clients. A few highlights from the weekend include:

  • The Stability Ball and Body Bar Class – This class taught me new ball and body bar exercises that incorporate bungee bands for extra resistance
  • Hydrofit Deep Water Sports Conditioning - This sports specific and athletic conditioning water class is perfect for athletes and fit individuals to cross train and exercise without causing stress to the joints. If you think water aerobics is only for grandma, you are mistaken…this was difficult!
  • Bosu Speed, Power and Agility class - Here I learned new techniques to maximize athletic movements on the ball while challenging balance and stability more than usual
  • Osteoporosis Lecture – This lecture provided me with some new information on the causes of Osteoperosis, prevention strategies and exercises to combat osteoporosis
  • Targeted Cardiovascular Training – Here I learned how to better assess and design programs for maximum cardiovascular training
  • SAFE Kettlebell Training - This class provided a refresher on how to teach proper kettlebell form and technique

Watch out clients, I’ll be trying out these new exercises and workouts on you allMiami1miami2 soon!!!!!
