Congratulations to Michele Caro, a Physical Equilibrium client, for completing her first Ironman race in Panama City, Florida on November 7th.  She had a great finishing time of 14 hours and 18 minutes.

Michele started off with a steady 2.4 mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico that she finished in 1 hour 28 minutes. She then transitioned into 112 mile bike ride with lots of headwind.  “With only short pockets of no wind it was hard to push the pace. The last 20 miles were the worst and I was just thrilled and ecstatic to get off the bike,” said Caro.  Amazingly, she was able to save some energy on the bike – which proved extremely useful as she picked off many athletes that were walking or burnt out from the swim and the bike.

After the long bike trip, Michele, finished the competition with a great marathon time of 4 hours 57 minutes, which was good enough for 49th place in her age group!  Michele recently told me that, “I expected to have some ‘dig deep’, ‘life changing’ moment(s) during the run, which never happened. Instead it was a consistent, focused effort throughout the day. The process of taking one event, one lap, one mile at a time was right on. If I  thought too far ahead it was damaging. I just needed to get to the next mile/aid station. It was a good study in patience and consistency. I had no nutritional issues at all, not even a rumble in my tummy. I was very well prepared and thought my training was nearly perfect!  I now have future goals of becoming faster!”

What a tremendous achievement by Michele – Physical Equilibrium’s newest Ironman.

jackrabbit

Physical Equilibrium’s registered dietician, Sarah Currie, is scheduled to speak at the Park Slope Jack Rabbit Sports on Thursday October 1.

JackRabbit is hosting a marathon Q&A night in each of its three stores to help everyone who is running a marathon this fall. Whether you’re wondering about how to time your taper, or about race day nutrition, or what to do about a nagging little injury, we’ll be able to answer all your questions.

Each store will feature a panel of three marathon experts:

  • A Doctor or Physical Therapist
  • A Running / Marathon Coach
  • A Sports Nutritionist

Sarah will give a 10-minute talk on sports nutrition and then stay as long as needed to make sure all of the questions from the audience are answered.

Everyone attending the marathon Q&A night will *also* get 15% off everything in the store, so you can make sure you have everything you need for the final few weeks of training and for race day.

IN ADDITION, if you bring a friend to the event, you’ll each get an ADDITIONAL $5 off any purchase over $100.

Remember, the event is happening at all three JackRabbit locations,  Check their web site http://www.jackrabbitsports.com/ for addresses and directions.
