Jesse Barnett is New York City based dancer and Pilates instructor. Jesse grew up studying dance in his hometown of Yorktown, Virginia where he was first introduced to Pilates through his classical dance training. Like many dancers, Jesse practiced Pilates alongside other movement modalities as a way to supplement and improve his technique, but more recently, Pilates has become a true obsession matched only by his love of dance. After graduating with a BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College, Jesse became a certified Pilates instructor through The Kane School, where he was trained in contemporary Pilates approaches, including training in movement anatomy, biomechanics, and touch techniques.
Jesse’s background cultivated a general fascination with movement in all forms. In addition to dance and Pilates, Jesse enjoys studying a variety of movement activities including swimming, weight lifting, and yoga. His hope is to share his knowledge of movement with athletes and non-movers alike so they can learn to move to their fullest potential.
Using a combination of classical Pilates exercises and contemporary modifications, this class will focus on improving skeletal alignment while simultaneously strengthening the surrounding muscles. Exercises will challenge the body as well as place an emphasis on quality of movement. By doing so, this class aims to create stronger, smarter, and more efficient bodies both in and out of the studio.
